How It Works

At Jolly Sailor Creative Repair, creative mending is a collaborative, thoughtful process. Here’s what you can expect from beginning to return.

1. Reach Out

Start by sending an email to atfearnside@gmail.com with:

  • Photos of your garment

  • A brief description of its story or needs

  • Any hopes, ideas, or aesthetic direction

From there, we’ll schedule a consultation.

2. Consultation

We’ll talk through:

  • The condition of the garment

  • Structural needs

  • Creative direction

  • Materials and tone

  • Estimated cost and timeline

This is a collaborative conversation. Creative mending is interpretive — together we’ll shape a vision before work begins.

3. Reserve Your Project

A non-refundable deposit is required to:

  • Secure your place in the studio queue

  • Cover consultation and design development

  • Begin sourcing materials (if needed)

Work begins once the deposit is received.

4. Ship Your Garment

You’ll mail your garment to the studio in New Mexico using a tracked (and ideally insured) shipping method.

Garments are pre-loved and sometimes fragile. Care is taken throughout the process, but natural wear and unpredictability are part of working with existing textiles.

5. The Creative Repair Process

Your garment enters the studio.

This stage may include:

  • Structural reinforcement

  • Visible mending

  • Patchwork or stitching design

  • Artistic reinterpretation

Progress photos may be shared during this stage when appropriate.

Each repair is one-of-a-kind. Variation is part of the beauty.

6. Final Payment

When your piece is complete, you will receive final images and an invoice for the remaining balance.

Final payment is due before return shipment.

Because this is custom, artist-designed work, all sales are final.

7. Return Shipping

Your garment will be carefully packaged and shipped back to you with tracking information.

You’ll receive something familiar — and newly alive.

A Note on Care

Creative repair extends the life of clothing, but repaired areas should be treated gently. Specific care instructions may be provided depending on your piece.
