RECLAIMED CANVAS STORY:
Kei & Molly Textiles is an Albuquerque small business printing beautiful designs on tea towels and other products. They are a truly inspiring shop! They have created meaningful jobs for immigrants and refugees here for fifteen years. Each tea towel is screen printed by hand, on long tables in their light-filled studio. The tables are protected with canvas, and the canvas receives bits of each print it hosts. After a year of daily work, the canvas has a rich patina that reflects the hands of the workers, the many designs they’ve printed, and the palettes they’ve chosen. Kei & Molly have given me this canvas over a few years as a material to upcycle. Thank you Kei & Molly!
Each bag is unique, as each yard of canvas has its own unique combination of print-shadows, paint spills, and print haze. My design works to showcase the beauty of these imperfections by making contrasts, harmonies, and collages with them.
